How to Avoid Getting Eaten!

Your competitors will eat you alive if you do not have a strong internet marketing strategy for your home based MLM business. But before you can develop a strategy you need to know who your competitors are.  So how do you do this when there are so many people in the MLM industry? Well, it's really quite simple.  So here is a step-by-step lesson on finding out who is who in your market: Wait! Before I give you the steps you need to have a few questions in mind when looking at your competitors:

  • Who is ranking tops in the results?
  • What are they selling?
  • Who is advertising?
  • Who is putting out content and what are they putting out?

Okay, so here are the steps.

  1. Go to Google and type in your product or service eg: Super Dooper Vitamin Drink or Super Dooper MLM Course (not real products) or your keywords (for those of you who have done proper market research).
  2. In the results you will get all the top search results, click on the first ten and see what they are about.   Make a note of names, products etc
  3. At the top of the Google website on the left you will have options like images, videos, news, blogs, forums etc
  4. Click through all of these tabs and do the same as in step 2
  5. Go to Facebook and search there, again do the same as in step 2
  6. Go to Youtube and search there, again do the same as in step 2
  7. Go to (your preferred social networking site)  and search there, again do the same as in step 2
You will now have a notepad full of who your competitors are, what they promote and how they promote it.
Two great tools to use to keep an eye on competitors and industry news are Google Reader and Google Alerts.
  1. Go to Google Alerts and type in your product or service or keywords.  You can have them emailed to you or sent to your Google reader account.
  2. Google reader is where your alerts as well as your RSS feeds are delivered to.
Now you can get all your industry information and keep an eye on your competitors all in one place.
